Ruby was one of the best “friend castings” I’ve ever found. Sometimes you need a specific looking person, but you don't have the budget for a model agency to cast the right one. Luckily our talent, who was a breath work coach, knew her friend would be up for coming down and helping out. We needed someone who could sell the vibe. Ruby was 100% the perfect person for it.
This was a weird shoot because how do you capture something, like breathing, that is inherently invisible in photography? I decided to focus on the physical effects. The way her ribcage showed when she took in deep breaths. The gentle touch to the ground to centre herself. All the while she just carried on and did the work with me pointing a big camera at her. Amazing casting. Plus she was a joy to talk to and hang out with - so much so that I cast her in another content shoot we had the next day.
I’m happy with this set - it was a shoot I didn’t put much thought or planning into, but the simplicity of the imagery fits the tone I was trying to portray, so I’ll consider it a success to me at least.
