The Cannes red carpet is a really funny place to be. You can just be standing there as “regular” people make their way down, trying and failing to take a selfie usually. And then suddenly you’ll just realize that someone really famous is standing a few feet from you. This is what happened with Cate. I was casually shooting off a few frames here and there waiting for the next wave of big names to pull up. And then there she was, smiling in my general direction.
There really is something about those who have been around the celebrity world for a while and the aura that they give off. In a sea of influencers wearing loud dresses and jewellery - Cate seemed so elegant as she started off down the runway with a gentle smile. She didn’t need to be told where to stand or pose - it must all be second nature to her now.
I grabbed a few frames on the longer lens as my position wasn’t great - but as she got out of range I just watched her she interacted with the photographers. It was clear that she was at a level where she was telling them what to do, rather than the other way around. Love it.
