craig

Craig is the kinda guy you know from school who always had a business going. It might have been selling sweets, it might have been burning CD’s of tracks ripped from Limewire. Either way, we all knew a Craig.

This Craig is the owner of Blood Records. It’s a cool record label you probably haven’t heard of, but your cool music friend has.

Their thing is pressing super cool vinyl that fosters a community around it, and boy has it worked. People seem to buy the releases jus because it’s a “Blood records” release, regardless of the actual music. We were there to make a film about the process of making a vinyl record. This meant we have to travel up to Middlesborough in the north of England to the plant which makes all the vinyl for the label. The day before we photographed and shot video of Craig interacting with the records he now calls work.

Two of the latest releases at the time were the new Blur album and a rerelease of an Elton John. At time of writing he’s currently making headlines for the liquid filed vinyl he made especially for the “Saltburn” movie soundtrack.

We sat Craig in the fake studio, come apartment space. It looks like most East London warehouses if you’ve spent enough time in them. The best frame came with him sat by the large open window which bathed him in light better than any rig we could put together. He sat perfectly, with one leg against the wall, I snapped the picture and we were done. There were others but this frame is the one that captured his aura on that day.

Last I heard from him, he was racing his own kit cars during track days. Clearly, I should have sold vinyl, rather than bought it.
