Lais. Lais was a funny old shoot. I was distracted by a a new 3D technology that I was trying to figure out and I needed a model. So it’s fair to say that my brain was half on that, and not concentrated on a getting the best out of my 2D imagery with her.

With that in mind I had organised minimal styling and props. I mostly spent my time cycling from Hackney to somewhere in darkest Greenwich to rent a small slider (Spoiler: it wasn’t good enough for what I needed)

So there I was, sitting in front of Lais. We started as I always did in these days, natural light sitting at the table together. I started every one of the model shoots like this because it gave me a chance to sit with the woman and actually meet her. I wouldn’t shoot too much at this point, and usually let them wear whatever they walked in the room wearing. I found this usually put them slightly more at ease and felt less like they had to perform the second they arrived.

To start, I had a bowl of cereal and some milk to play with. She did a great job making it look like a more put together shoot, rather than what it was. Some guy who’d been to Aldi on his way to the studio. We moved into the white colorama where she wore a pair of dungarees and a black bra. Simple, meet effective. We finished up with some pajamas on the sofa, a fitting end to a nice afternoon. The stills were good. But I can tell that I’m distracted and not at my best. The 3D imagery I captured was ok. Not great but it was enough to learn more about how to make it work for me.

Thanks Lais. You were the best test subject a photographer could have asked for. Thanks for eating some much cereal.
