Georgia described where she was from as “The Texas of Canada” which instantly made me both like, and understand her as a person. Aside from being a very nice person, she is a great model. Everything we shot was effortless. As I always did at this time, I started with a simple table set up opposite the window in my studio at the time, and we just spoke whilst I did portraits in the vest she turned up in. She managed to create such interesting angles with her arms and torso, that we could have been finished there. She also had mastered the “plain but intense stare” that all good models can do. Lips slightly parted, eyes going right through the back of your head like a gunshot.

When we moved onto out second shot, a white bra on a black background we spoke about her swimming background, a sport she had done as a child. I remember being mesmerised by her arms during this. They seemed so long, powerful and delicate all at once. It’s no wonder that the shot of her with one arm up, one arm down, with her hair doing the same became the front cover to my website for a few months.

After this I had two dresses to play with, one classic black look. The “little black dress” that every woman in New York apparently had to own in the 90’s. But the second was a little closer to home. It was a vintage Ralph Lauren sparkle green dress that my mother had handed down to me. It had been hanging in the studio for months and when Georgina walked in I knew it had been waiting for her. She rocked it perfectly next to a football table that had been dumped in the lobby of my studio. The shine from the sequins matching the glow of her eyes.

It’s been a while since I looked at this set. I really like them.

I’m currently based in Canada, so maybe I should look her up and see if she wants to show me what the Texas of Canada looks like.
