Time for a controversial one. I knew I had to have one or two or these during my career.
This is Greg Wallace. Most famous for hosting Masterchef in the UK. I’m sure he would describe himself as a “cheeky chappy”. Others might describe him in a slightly different way. As I write this, he is currently wrapped up in a cancel culture saga as he has been accused by many people over a long period of time.
Having worked with him on multiple occasions I understand where some of these accusations are coming from. He’s someone who cannot stop talking. But worse than that, he constantly makes “jokes”. Mostly dad level jokes which the crew begrudgingly laugh at and wish he would just do the shot. But others which cross a professional line. I won’t accuse him of anything here, but based off what I have heard and seen I can understand why some people “of a certain age”. May have an issue.
Regardless on this shoot I spoke to him briefly about my previous encounter with him. I had gone to his house in the British countryside to assist on a shoot for a magazine. At lunchtime it became clear that he wanted to make us lunch, which seemed nice. Remember, it’s the host of Masterchef we have here. A show all about cooking amazing food. So,I was a little disappointed when he served me a single sardine sandwich. If any celebrity offers to cook for you, that’s usually as a win. But I will admit, I was expecting more.
I mention this before I shot his portrait and he burst into his trademark grin, which is what I captured and delivered to a happy client.
