greta
Again - in The Carlton lobby capture for AP. One I’m slightly annoyed about because she was the first big name of the evening - she was on the jury for the Cannes Film Festival so there was a lot of coverage about her.
I seem to remember being caught slightly off by her arrival - she just appeared and then didn’t stand where we were told they would and by the time she’d been put into place she only posed for a few seconds. This being one of my first Cannes I was neither rude enough to my fellow shooters to push them out of the way, and I didn’t beg the PR’s enough to give me a few more seconds. Lesson learned. I do personally however actually like the movement in this image though. She’s looking right at me and the guards and other people taking pictures doesn’t it feel busy. It could have done with a bit more lighting but we’ll take what I can get when shooting like this.
The funnier part of this shoot was on the way home from Cannes I paid for the airport lounge because its actually quite affordable in Nice. When I sat down I noticed a roped off sofa within the lounge. There’s always another level, theres always a bigger fish etc. While I was wondering who would pay for a special sofa in an airport lounge, photographer Greg Williams and his assistant pulled sat down next to me. I’d seen Greg around Cannes over the week - I assume he must almost have free run of the place by now. Fair enough - he does make very good use of all that crazy access he gets. A few minutes later a mother and a toddler wonder past me. I smile at the baby and catch eyes with the mother - then we both do a very quick second glance at each other. It’s Greta. After seeing her in a myriad of expensive outfits all week - it was nice to see her just look like a normal happy mum just trying to keep her baby quiet. I feel like she regonised me - but I’m sure I blended into the thousands of photographers she met that week.
