rachel
Rachel is one of the models I’ve shot the most. Firstly because she’s a joy to spend time with, but also because I can never feel like I’ve captured her quite well enough. She has almost pixie like features and I’ve not spent 3 separate shoots trying to capture it.
Our first shoot together was in a dark tiny studio, theres a shot of her wearing a suit with no shirt which I like. Mostly because she has the perfectly single strand of hair falling down across her face. There’s another were she’s leaning on a plank of wood with the perfect “breathy” lips. I use this as a reference for other models so much.
Our second shoot was a bit of a disaster. I tried to do a full editorial in a studio during COVID. For some reason the idea was centered around a woman who played golf and lived in a crazy apartment. I’m not sure why I went for this, but it didn’t really come off. It was over styled, props weren’t right. Lighting was wrong. But every now and then, through our 4/5 set ups we did that day. Theres a shot of her where I caught her. Wether it be her looking at herself in a mirror, or just pulling her socks up.
Our last shoot was in my studio where we just wanted to catch up, so we had a mess around with some lighting I had, and some outfits and wigs she had. This was more fun than trying to make a story, and proved the age old phrase, less can indeed be more.
I’m waiting for the right shoot. One day I’ll get the call for a job and be asked if I have any models in mind. Thats when we’ll work together again next and maybe then, I’ll do her justice.
