yong
Yong is so cool. But the best part is that he’s quietly cool. When I first met him at the restaurant “Insa” in Brooklyn he co owns with two others, he was sitting on a table in the main dining space.
Not really doing much, but just siting there looking great. He comes across like a quiet guy, but when you start talking to him you realize that he both knows his shit, and has shit to say. Smart things to say at that. I photographed him with his two partners as a group first, as I felt he was the kind person who probably didn’t like being photographed by someone he just me. I also didn’t want him to feel embarrassed so I took him to a private corridor and had him play behind the curtains. This brought out the genuine smile I was after and we were done in a couple of minutes.
I later interviewed him where is became clear just how much the other two partners both relied on him, but also trusted him and his vision. I’m glad I got to meet him and hope that some of his “aura” rubbed off on me somehow.
